Is it worth it? I was contemplating getting it but I bought a Toyota for it's reliability. Now should I shell out the extra money for the warranty?

My girlfriend bought it on hers just because of the fact when there doing warranty work they will provide her with a rental vehicle. That was worth it to her, plus she drives alot and the car will have 100k on it by the time her payments are up in 5 years

If you decide on an extended warranty, here's a link to a short list of dealers most popular with TNers and offering excellent prices.

I got my extended warranty as part of the deal I made.
I Negotiated the price of my car and then asked for more. They wouldn't give me anymore but finally the sales manager asked if I would sign if they threw in the 100K warranty.
It is a much better idea for people to put the amount the policy would cost in an interest bearing account and have it available if ever needed. Most people won't do that.
For people that don't manage their money well and couldn't come up with the money to replace an engine or tranny sometimes it makes sense. If you can manage your money well, it isn't worth the risk.
It's basically a gamble.

I bought the extended warrenty. I work in a service dept and have seen how much those have paid off. I would recommend getting a Toyota Extra Care plan. Of course you should negotiate price on it because cost probably isnt any more than $500 for the dealer. I would say $1000 would be worth the warrenty over time.

how is it determined that the part broken is not from normal wear and tear?
Say, I have warranty up to 100k miles and my water pump goes at 90k miles...is it just covered?

It really depends how long you're planning on keeping the car for.

My 99 Corolla has 341K miles on it and it just passed California smog check 6 days ago. I have spent less than $1,000 on "repairs" for this car. A starter can be rebuilt for less than $15.
The only "repairs" were one Serpintine belt tensioner, one timing chain tensioner, one drivers door handle, one transaxle seal, one circuit card for heater, starter solenoid contacts, interior rear view mirror. Most repairs surface at 200k mile mark. I have not had to replace any emmissions components. My secret, 3k oil changes with Chevron Supreme 5W/30, Chevron ATF, Chevron fuel with Techron and an occasional bottle of Techron in the tank.
Don't waste the money purchasing any warranty for Corolla. Better to donate to Charity, at least you get a tax write-off. Take a vacation. Buy a new TV.

What about for cars over 100k, any good warranties? I bought my camry in 2007 and got the 100k warranty (paid for itself already). Now I'm at 95k miles and won't be getting rid of the car any time soon. Anyone know of a good warranty dealer for me?
