Ok I have a question...on the headlight switch, 1 click and the rear lights are lit up and when all the way...the back and headlights are on.
What Im wondering is if I can change it so 1 click is the rear lights AND the front turning signal lights and when the switch is all the way, the turning signal lights are on too? I want to have runner lights on(like the new cars) because i dont like running the headlights for a long time (i put on a sylvania headlamp kit and dont want it to burn out). Any ideas? thanks...

ONE click should turn on all the running lights front & rear...the secod detent should only turn on the headlights (you ARE talking about turning the light stalk, right?)

if you are trying to leave the headlight off and the singnal day timers on, try pulling you e-brake just so the light on the dash comes on this will elimanate the headlights coming on.

yes i am talking about the light stalk...and one click does not turn on the front turn signals, only the rear lights. I wasnt even sure if that was legal because every car I have seen has running lights when the headlights are on. The turn signals work fine, there just arent running lights tho.

It would take semi complicated wiring to wire the turnsignals that way. The modern cars you see them on have a module that everything is wired to and it takes care of it all. Its not impossible tho.
I'd have it wired so that just the front turns are lit but not all other parking lights are. At least in CA it's illegal to have just your parking lights on.
Actually I thought about it and to do what you want to wouldn't be tooo hard. Here is a schematic of what I think you want to do.
Where:
85 - Turn Signal output
30 - Ign switched + source (you may have to add another relay to provide this)
87a- Turn Sig. Bulb
86 - Ground
You'll probably have to also experiment and add a resistor between 85 and 86 and the value of it will affect the blinking speed. I'm thinking somewhere between 2-8 ohms? Just a guess.

Scroll down the list on the right side, everything you ever wanted to know about vehicle electrical systems is there and I'll vouch for the accuracy.
If you have a vehicle alarm with a unused aux signal channel it would be super simple just to trigger it from 'engine running'.
Gentlemen, (and I'm curious as to my reason for using that word)

I was wanting to do the same thing, and i read on a forum some dude did this with his motorcycle. Buy a trailer lighting adapter kit for independent bulbs. i found one at autozone for 15 bucks. it should have these connections. on the car side you should have ground, tail, brake, left turn, right turn. on the trailer side it should have ground, tail, left turn, right turn.
to do what you want to do, you'll need an 1157 bulb and harness, and would need to hook up the (tail) wire to something that came on when the stalk was only half turned, like your front corner markers. This way, when your lights were on, it would blink from bright to dim, instead of bright to off.
i just got all the parts tonight and plan on hooking it all up tomorrow, and this is how i understand it all should work. if it doesnt work like this, i'll update.
to just use the 1156 bulbs you only need to hook it up like such. I want to use a switch so that i could turn them off, but i also want them to automatically come on and off when the truck was on and off. so i'll tap into the cigarette lighter and run that wire to the switch's power plug. then i'll run the switches acc wire to the (brake) wire on the car side of the adapter. then just cut the original turn signals power by plugging the car sides of the adapter into the turn signal power from the car, and the trailer sides of the adapter into the bulbs power lead.
with this setup, i should be able to leave the switch on and whenever the truck is on (or the key is in the acc position) the front turn signals should be on. when the turn signal is activated it should blink that side off and leave the other side on. and if for some reason i dont want them on i can flip the switch off, which will disconnect the (brake) power from the trailer adapter, but still allow the turn signals to function as normal. I dont know if any of this is legal, or even a good idea, but its something i would like to try, and this is how i plan on trying it.

How did that work out Soylent?
I see that was almost two years ago, but I've been searching for a way to basically switch the functions of the corner lights and turn signal lights. So my turn signals would permanently act as running lights and the corner lights would become the turn signals.
This could possibly be a better alternative if you had any luck with it.

I did have luck with this, except i replaced my turn signals with leds so as to draw less power and make less heat. so far the setup with the trailer wiring harness has worked fine. the only glitch i found was if i tried to use the hazzard lights with the switch off, they wouldnt blink with the truck off as well. but as long as i leave the switch on, everything works like i want it to.
