VSC and CEL both came on and stayed on today

2004 HL Limited, 3.3L V6, AWD, 56,000 miles. Both VSC and CEL lights came on and stayed on today. Roads are clean and dry now so I have no way to check if VSC is actually working but it has worked fine this winter on several occasions.

That both lights came on at the same time makes me wonder if there's an electrical fault somewhere. They apply to completely different systems, do they not (brakes and emissions)? I guess I can get the CEL code pulled at Autozone. Any other thoughts?

could be a completely unrelated problem like an O2 sensor that is causing downstream shut down - you have to get the codes pulled.

When CEL comes on it disables the vsc hence both lights coming on.

Look for a detached hose leading to your air filter box (evap purge)

or a loose gas cap.

If not, have the cel code checked out and don't worry about vsc problems right now.

I did not know that. Thanks!

I know the CEL will go off after some number of engine starts without the fault being detected but I don't know how many no trouble found cycles it takes. Anyone? Or does it vary by vehicle?

I got something like that, then I checked at local auto parts and got air/fuel ratio (sensor one bank one) fail. You can put you finger check at the exhaust tip and if you see black smoke or something like fuel that is a problem. My friend who does the mechanic told me to get OEM denso part. That will cost you about $365 plus tax at dealer ship or online around $150.
