Our company has had two tundras that the owners drive as company trucks. Well one of them got passed on to a son of one of the owners. Neither owners are mechanically inclined at all.
I am looking to replace my T100 with a 2004-06 tundra and was snooping around in here an was very socked to see the 4.7L had a timing belt. Even more so to find out one of the company tundra's had 155K on the timing belt before it was totaled. The other is going to the shop per this web page for a timing belt replacement. It is at 170k. Needless to say they both where on borrowed time.
Long story short, thanks to all that contribute. You may have saved someone a lot of money. I will be looking for a 4.0 or maby a 5.7 in a newer one. If Toyota is too cheep to build a motor with a chain they should pay for the timing belts

I read both aspect's on what you stated but It Left me a little confused when you stated this " I will be looking for a 4.0 or maybe a 5.7 in a newer one. Toyota designed the engine belt's for a few reason the timing belts engines 4.7 liter vvti are quit from an engineering standpoint. Sure Timing chains are better from the Maintenance side but they too also require some levels of maintenance yet not as bad as Belt driven engines. One of the core reason I don't like the design because Toyota belt's once they have broken plan on replacing your engine. The interference motor's are like

I have an 04 Tundra that I bought in 08. I bought the Tundra after Toyota bought my rusted framed 95 Tacoma. To make a long story short, I had 273K miles on the Tacoma when they bought it back, while on the original timing chain. I'm not mechanically inclined, but the only work ever done on it was one clutch replacement. The truck ran great when I gave them the keys. No timing belt needed. Toyota is the best!
